You scrub the tile until it shines and the floor still looks dirty, because it is the grout, gone gray and brown between the tiles. You have knelt there with a brush until your arm ached and it barely lightened, and you decided it was stained forever. It very likely is not stained at all. The dirt is still in there, and the reason your scrubbing did not work has nothing to do with how hard you scrubbed.
