Forging a Medieval Rush Light Holder: A Beginner's Guide to Historical Ironwork
In this project, we dive into historical ironwork by forging a medieval rush light holder.
You'll see the entire process, starting with how I light the fire for the forge, then moving to using rebar and shaping it by squaring it off.
I'll walk you through making the tongs, crafting a cup for a regular candle, and then finishing the piece with a wire brush and blackening it with linseed oil.
As a bonus, we also build the wooden base on a spring pole lathe, making this a great crossover project for anyone interested in woodworking as well.
