Sometimes the fastest sketches tell us the most.
In this video I’m sharing a look inside my sketchbook, along with one of my favorite warm-up exercises: simple scribbling. It may seem playful, but this kind of free drawing can help quiet perfectionism, turn on your art brain and quiet down your worry brain, and gently settle your nervous system. This is emotional processing at its best, non-verbal! Although you can use words if you want, of course. Your art. Your choice.
You’ll see a few of my quick emotional sketches and hear how I use them as a way to process experiences without worrying about making “good art.”
Whether you’re an artist, a busy professional, or simply looking for a creative way to decompress, I hope this practice encourages you to pick up a pencil and give yourself a few quiet minutes.
If this resonates with you, I’d love to hear:
What emotions have you explored through drawing or creativity?
Subscribe / Folllow for more therapeutic creativity, mindfulness, and simple art practices designed to support emotional well-being and everyday life.
I hope this helps whatever you are going through. 🩵
Love,
Shelley
