Treasury Wants 16% VAT on M-Pesa and Other Payment Platforms
The National Treasury is planning to introduce a 16 per cent VAT on payment service providers, including M-Pesa, Airtel Money and Pesapal.
According to the Treasury, the tax will apply to companies supplying ICT services that facilitate digital payments, including paybills and tills.
