Trump Settles with Himself

Donald Trump has made history as the first president to sue the government that he leads. Specifically, Trump sued the IRS for $10 billion in a lawsuit that originates with a data breach which led to stories in the New York Times in 2019 that disclosed some of Trump's financial information. Following this, Trump sued the IRS for $10 billion, and this was a constitutional crisis because as president, he oversees the Treasury Department, which oversees the IRS. So Trump had to settle with himself, and he was on record with Forbes saying as much. The settlement that he worked out is a $1.7 billion taxpayer-funded "anti-weaponization fund" that is designed to disperse monies to people who Trump feels have been unfairly prosecuted. And, in a somewhat shocking element of the settlement, Trump's family is indemnified from all financial fraud investigations from the IRS. And I believe this is covering anything in the past. In another obvious conflict, the person who authorized the settlement is Todd Blanche, who is acting Attorney General and also Trump's personal former lawyer. Some people are saying that this makes a mockery of the rule of law. What do you think? #politics #news #trump #irs
