Treasury unveils Sh4.8 trillion budget plan, targets heavy domestic borrowing

The National Treasury is proposing to spend up to Sh4.8 trillion for the next financial year beginning July 2026. In budget estimates sent to Parliament, the National Treasury is proposing to raise county allocations by Sh5 billion to settle at Sh420 billion for the new financial year. To meet the total expenditure demand, the Treasury intends to borrow upwards of Sh1.1 trillion, much of it from the domestic market.
