Based on a video game by the dame name, this was one heck of a wild weird and trippy ride.
EXIT 8 (2026) - Strange events plague a young man as he searches for the exit in an endless subway tunnel.
Exit 8 is a trippy looping story, but what the heck is actually going on? We're introduced to the lost man, aimlessly wandering through life, job to job. He really doesn't have agency over his life. Seen when a passenger is yelling at a woman's newborn for crying, he hesitates to intervene. He then gets a text from his ex saying that she is now pregnant and asks what he wants to do. This is the setup for the entire looping section of the movie. It's basically a test alluded to as test or the letters of test are the first letters to appear when the lost man's designation appears on screen. He is lost and the looping hallways are teaching him to identify anomalies or rather problems in his life and recognize them rather than just walking past because if he does he'll end up right back to where he started. For example, his ex's pregnancy. This is reinforced by, you know, the initial crying baby on the train, but also the various, you know, crying calls of babies throughout the entire movie. So, through the looping corridors, he learns this with the help of the boy. The boy is the manifestation of his yet to be born child, learning to care for him and then at the end essentially sacrificing himself or making the choice to care for others rather than selfishly continue his lost wandering. The other looping character, the walking man, is actually the lost man. if he continues his journey of meandering through life, walking past and avoiding his problems, going through the motions, full of regret, later learning it's far too late, that his life is just a routine. This is hinted at when he confronts the younger woman. We can assume that this is actually the lost man's ex because her profile picture on his phone has a black cat, which we later see as an anomaly in the corridors. So, the entire story is showing kind of the dual realities of the lost man confronting his problems versus him avoiding them and then turning into the walking man. At the end, it may appear that he is still in the loop, but with him gathering tears in his eyes and taking a step out of frame, I believe that he has escaped and instead does confront the passenger, yelling at the newborn and mother, meaning he meets his ex and tackles the unexpected pregnancy head on.
