Anthropic announced a cybersecurity initiative called Project Glasswing, built around an unreleased AI model called Claude Mythos Preview. The company says the model has identified thousands of previously unknown vulnerabilities across every major operating system and every major browser, including some that had gone undetected for decades.

Among the disclosed findings are a 17-year-old remote code execution flaw in FreeBSD and a browser exploit chain linking four separate vulnerabilities together to escape both the renderer and OS sandboxes. Anthropic is deliberately withholding the model from general availability due to its offensive capabilities, instead routing access through a coalition that includes AWS, Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Palo Alto Networks.

Whether the capability claims hold up under independent scrutiny remains to be seen. If these models can find and fix vulnerabilities at scale before attackers reach them, that changes the math on defensive security. This development is worth watching closely as AI-driven vulnerability discovery could reshape how the industry approaches both offensive and defensive security.
