Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered one of his longest responses during a question-and-answer session with international news agencies at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), responding to a question from the Associated Press.



Putin said Russia remains prepared for compromise based on issues previously discussed during negotiations, while arguing that the possibility of reaching an agreement does not contradict Russia's military objectives.



During the exchange, Putin also discussed the conflict in Ukraine, Western military assistance, drone warfare and Russia's defense capabilities. He claimed that Western countries continue to provide Ukraine with large numbers of drones, while asserting that Russia possesses extensive air-defense and long-range strike capabilities.



The Russian leader additionally commented on military technology, including hypersonic and cruise missile systems, and addressed broader questions regarding the future of negotiations and the conflict.



The remarks came during Putin's annual meeting with international media executives and journalists, one of the most closely watched events of SPIEF 2026.
