China’s President Xi Jinping met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Beijing during a high-level diplomatic visit that comes amid rising global tensions.

The meeting at the Great Hall of the People follows Lavrov’s talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, where discussions focused on the Ukraine war, the U.S.–Iran conflict, and preparations for a future summit between Xi and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Xi described China-Russia relations as “precious” in the current global climate and called for deeper strategic coordination between the two nations.

The talks highlight the growing alignment between Beijing and Moscow since their “no limits” partnership declared in 2022, just before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
