A bronze statue of Maharishi Sushruta, widely regarded as the Father of Surgery, has been unveiled at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, honouring India's ancient medical legacy and its historic ties with Scotland. Believed to have lived around 600 BCE, Sushruta authored the Sushruta Samhita, documenting hundreds of surgical procedures, diseases, medicinal plants and instruments. He pioneered reconstructive nose surgery and skin grafting techniques that continue to influence modern plastic surgery. The ceremony also marked the release of a new scholarly compendium exploring Sushruta's enduring impact, reaffirming his place as one of history's greatest medical innovators. Daniela Laurel brings you the details on Spotlight.
