The conflict in Yemen has taken a dramatic turn after an Iranian Mahan Air jet was forced to divert from Sanaa International Airport and land in Houthi-controlled Hodeidah. Yemen's internationally recognized government said it targeted the airport area to prevent the Iranian aircraft from landing, alleging the flight was carrying a Houthi delegation returning from funeral ceremonies for Iran's former Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, along with other passengers. Iran's Fars News Agency reported that the aircraft diverted safely, while the Houthis accused Saudi Arabia of carrying out the strikes. Soon afterward, the Houthis launched missiles toward Saudi Arabia, threatening to unravel years of relative calm and raising fears of a broader regional escalation.
