European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen reaffirmed the European Union's long-term commitment to Ukraine during the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2026 in Gdańsk, Poland. Describing Ukraine's future as firmly anchored within the European family, von der Leyen highlighted progress in the country's EU accession process and praised its continued resilience amid Russia's invasion. She announced that the EU has now provided €200 billion in overall support since the war began and unveiled a new €90 billion support loan, with an initial €3.2 billion set for immediate disbursement. Von der Leyen also introduced the European Flagship Fund, designed to mobilise up to €1 billion in investment for strategic sectors including energy and infrastructure. She praised Ukraine's rapidly developing defence industry, particularly its drone technology, and called for deeper cooperation between European manufacturers and Ukrainian innovation.
