Former Indian Ambassador to China, Pakistan and Bhutan Gautam Bambawale says the upcoming meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping could shape global politics, trade and security far beyond Washington and Beijing. Speaking to Firstpost Bambawale said the world’s two biggest powers must find ways to cooperate despite rising competition over tariffs, technology and Taiwan. He noted that tensions in West Asia, China’s close ties with Iran and the global impact of oil prices make the summit especially significant. The former envoy said Asian powers including India, Japan, South Korea and Australia will closely watch whether the talks produce stability or deepen geopolitical rivalry. He also warned that closer U.S.-China coordination may not necessarily benefit India, which has traditionally gained strategic space when the two superpowers compete.
