The United Nations issued a stark warning that the war in Ukraine has become deadlier than at any point since Russia's full-scale invasion began in 2022. Briefing the UN Security Council, Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo said civilian casualties continue to rise, major missile and drone attacks are intensifying, and the risk of further escalation remains high.

DiCarlo urged both Russia and Ukraine to return to diplomacy, calling for an immediate, full, and unconditional ceasefire. She warned that continued fighting threatens regional stability, increases humanitarian suffering, and raises concerns around the safety of Ukraine’s nuclear facilities. The UN says a negotiated peace remains essential to preventing an even more dangerous phase of the conflict.
