Russian President Vladimir Putin met Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan in Moscow during her first official state visit to Russia, describing the trip as a "very good signal" for future bilateral relations.

During the meeting, Putin highlighted growing trade ties between Russia and Tanzania, noting that bilateral trade increased by around 20-25 percent in the past year. He pointed to opportunities for cooperation in energy, geological exploration, transport, logistics, healthcare and education.

President Hassan called the visit "a very historic trip," noting that more than half a century has passed since Tanzania's founding leader, Julius Nyerere, visited the Soviet Union in 1969. She also thanked Russia for its support during Africa's liberation movements and praised long-standing cooperation between the two countries.

The Tanzanian leader is also participating in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, one of Russia's largest international business events, where Moscow is seeking to deepen partnerships with African nations and the Global South.
