China has made an unusual espionage claim, alleging that foreign intelligence agencies are using sensor-fitted turtles, fish, buoys and wave gliders to collect sensitive maritime data in Chinese waters. According to Beijing's Ministry of State Security, these devices can gather information on ocean currents, water temperature, seabed conditions and even submarine activity. China claims the data could be used to create detailed underwater maps and identify vulnerabilities in its coastal defences. However, Beijing has not named any country or intelligence agency behind the alleged operation. The claims come amid long-running espionage tensions between China and Western nations. Cary Johnston tells you more on the Spotlight show.
