Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue of Indian seafarers' safety during his meeting with US President Donald Trump, days after Indian sailors were killed in attacks by US near offcoast of Oman.

Speaking alongside Trump, Modi emphasised that hundreds of thousands of Indian seafarers serve across global maritime trade routes, including the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, and said their safety remains of utmost importance for India. Modi called for ensuring freedom of navigation and stressed that seafarers must be able to carry out their duties without fear.
