European Union leaders have reaffirmed their support for Ukraine, declaring that the bloc is firmly on Kyiv's side as the war with Russia continues.
Speaking after an EU summit in Brussels, European Council President Antonio Costa said there are currently no credible signs that Russia is ready to engage in serious peace negotiations. Costa emphasized that the European Union does not intend to act as a mediator and will continue supporting Ukraine politically, economically, and diplomatically.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also stressed that Ukraine remains in control of its future, while warning that continued sanctions pressure will eventually force Russia back to the negotiating table.
The comments come as Ukraine and Moldova officially begin accession negotiations with the European Union, marking a major step toward closer integration with Europe.
