India achieved a major milestone when the Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam reached criticality, marking entry into the second stage of its three-stage nuclear programme envisioned by Homi Jehangir Bhabha. Built by Bharatiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Limited, this 500 MW fast breeder reactor can generate more fuel than it consumes, boosting long-term energy security.
